  • You cannot apply twice with the same passport for the same visa while one is pending.

Health declaration form
An online form, about 2 minutes, in English, Luganda, Kiswahili, French, Chinese and Arabic. An airport circular made it compulsory for everyone entering or leaving through Entebbe from 23 May 2026. Confirm it still applies when you travel.
Yellow fever certificate
Immigration said on 2 October 2026 that the certificate is no longer required for entry. Several older official pages still say it is, so bring yours if you have one and confirm with your airline.
Malaria
Present across the whole country all year. Talk to a travel clinic or your doctor about prevention before you come.

If you feel unwell
Go to the nearest health facility, call the Ministry of Health toll-free line 0800-100-066, or send an SMS to 6767. Fever, fatigue, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding are the warning signs the Ministry lists.
Entebbe airport clinic
Open 24 hours on the ground floor of arrivals, with emergency care, a pharmacy and a vaccination service. Entebbe Referral Hospital is about 5 minutes away.
Good to know
  • You do not need an Ebola-free certificate to leave Uganda. Testing is only for people with symptoms or known contacts. Be wary of anyone offering Ebola tests or certificates for a fee.
  • Other countries may apply their own rules to people who have been in Uganda. Check with the country you are travelling to or from.

Good to know
  • Police warned visitors on 6 October 2026 about a fake online company that sold gorilla permits, safaris and car hire at low prices, took advance payment through WhatsApp, mobile money or bank transfer, and then vanished. A tourist lost USD 2,215.
  • Buy gorilla and chimpanzee permits only from the Uganda Wildlife Authority or a company with a current Uganda Tourism Board licence. Foreign non-residents must buy through a licensed company. Never pay a personal mobile number, and never pay for a permit at the park gate.
  • The Tourism Board advises sticking to recommended tourist areas, avoiding travelling alone at night and watching your belongings in crowds.
  • A licence number on the list starts with UTB/RTT. Report a company that sells without a licence to the Tourism Board and to the Wildlife Authority. Use licensed guides too, and ask to see the licence.

10 m
to keep from gorillas and chimpanzees
1 hour
with each group, per day
15 years
youngest for gorilla tracking
Gorilla groups
At most eight visitors in a group. The time with the gorillas is one hour a day.
Chimpanzee groups
The time with the chimpanzees is one hour. In Kibale a group is at most six people.
Distance
Keep 10 metres (about 33 feet) from gorillas and from chimpanzees.
2 more details
On the day
Carry your permit and your payment receipt. Arrive early, because rangers brief the group before the walk.
Changing your date
The Wildlife Authority allows two date changes for one permit, and only within the same area and the same activity. The first is free if there is space. The second costs 25% of the permit price, and so does any change asked for less than 14 days before the trek. The new date must fall within 12 months of the first one. Tracking in a different place costs 50%. Permits bought on promotion or given free cannot be changed.
Gorilla tracking
  • Be at least 15 years old.
  • Stay away if you have a cold or any other infectious illness. Gorillas catch human illnesses.
  • Keep 10 metres away from the gorillas.
  • Do not smoke, eat or drink while tracking.
  • If you must sneeze or cough, cover your face and turn away from the gorillas.
  • Do not use flash.
  • Bury human waste 30 centimetres deep and take your litter out of the forest.
Chimpanzee tracking
  • Stay out of the forest if you are sick. Chimpanzees catch human illnesses.
  • Check the youngest age. The tariff says 12 and the Kibale park page says 16. Plan on 16 and confirm with the Wildlife Authority when you book.
  • Keep at least 10 metres away at all times.
  • Keep as quiet as you can. Do not copy their calls and do not chase them.
  • Do not smoke, eat or drink while tracking.
  • Do not use flash.
  • Bury human waste 30 centimetres deep and take your litter out of the forest.
Good to know
  • If a ranger tells you something different on the day, follow the ranger.
  • Rules for the whole park, such as gate hours, speed limits and fines, are on the Parks and wildlife page under Places and culture.
  • The Wildlife Authority does not publish its arrangements for visitors with a disability or limited mobility. Ask its reservations office before you book: reservations@wildlife.go.ug or 0800 100 960, toll free.
